Vintage Copper Indian Urli Bowl
Uruli or urli bowls are traditional South Indian vessels used for centuries to cook and make medicine. They are now most often used for ceremonial purposes or for floating flowers as decoration. Urli bowls are characterized by their shallow, round shape with straight walls rising from a sloped base.
This vintage copper bowl is handmade and beautifully stamped with a lotus design. It has patina and wear indicative of its age, although the precise era is difficult to determine; we believe it to be early to mid 20th century. It may have been tinned at one time but any evidence of tinning has since disappeared. This bowl has three spots where the design was hammered thin by the maker, which are indicated in the photos (shown in third photo - light shines through the thin spots). The largest of these spots is about one inch long.
Would make a beautiful addition to the eclectic, boho, or farmhouse style home.
Marked by the artist with a fish (fourth photo).
This is large at 15.5” wide x 15” long x 3.5” tall. Weighs just under 4 lbs.
(38 cm wide x 39.4 cm long x 8.9 cm tall)
